Return of the Smashing Pumpkins!

May 23, 2007 By Tom

SP on the cover of Rolling Stone, 1995Having disbanded in 2000, my favorite contemporary rock band since I was a depressed 15-year-old (in 1995), The Smashing Pumpkins, played their first show in nearly seven years last night in Paris! (Former members James and D’arcy–and Melissa–you will be missed. But at least now we’re getting a little Gen-Y representation happening with new bassist/vocalist Ginger Reyes.) Sadly, I wasn’t able to make the commute to Europe for the three-hour show, but plenty of YouTube sponsors were thankfully in attendance. Here’s one of the mellower songs from Billy and Jimmy’s new album, Zeitgeist, called “For God and Country”:

In addition to being the frontman for one of the biggest rock bands in postmodern history, Billy Corgan is, like me, a big fan of Ken Wilber’s integral metatheory. Check out his appearances (including an audio dialogue with Ken) at Integral Naked. (If you’re not a member, I think they offer a one-month free trial.)

And so my fellow Glass and the Ghostchildren acolytes, as we peer thru the eyes of ruby, it appears that the time has come, once again, to rawk.
